Styles of Debate

There are a lot of styles of debate.

Each of them has their own characteristic and differences

But, only three styles which often used by People in competition

they are autralasian, british, and world school system

those system/styles have differences

but the general ones of their differences only on the number of speakers in the team, the time for speaking, and the allowing of point of informations

Communications Faculty Of Bina Darma University Presents Public Speaking Competitions with the theme is that "Unite the world Through English Days". the title of this event is "Bina Darma Is on the Road To Succeed 26th SEA Games 2011".

this event is purposed to support SEA Games 2011 in Palembang so that's almost of the topics used in this event namely about SEA Games 2011 in Palembang.

There are four competitions inside this namely ;
1. Story Telling for Junior High School Students
2. Debate for Senior High School Students
3. Speech for University Students
4. Broadcasting(news reader) for Senior High School and University

We invite all the students start from SMP, SMA, And Universities in South Sumatera to directly involve in this event. we do really hope that we can see you all on the Day.

Technique of MC

Tips for Maestro of Ceremony

A success of a ceremony / an event / a party depends on how the beginning of that event start and it means how the person who lead that event.

The person who leads an event we call them Maestro of Ceremony (MC). Many of parties could be success because of a MC. MC has very strong power to addict the audience in order they can be interested and enthusias til make them stay tune on the floor until the party dropped!!

But the problems are, not all of MCs can dominate / overcome all the party because of limited of knowledge, own self problem, unconfidence, etc.



So here are Tips for being a good MC.

1. Speaking Technique
- Intonation
a MC must be able to control his intonation. He must know when he speaks loud, slow, persuade, etc.
- Articulation
a MC must speak clear! not to speak squarelling that can make audiences confused what he said.
- Speed
a MC must not speak fast! he must know the time when he must emphesize the meaning of his words and etc.
- Warmth/ Hospitality
a MC must be friendly to the audiences! he must keep smile to all audience in order to make them love us as MC till make a good image for us.

2. Performance
For this, it depends of the party / event which we lead. we must know what dress which we must wear. We must look interesting for the audiences. it can save our image as a good MC.

3. Confidence.
This is the most important for being MC. this one is usually the problem of every MC. Nervous is the foe for them. But a MC must know how to erase nervousness til MC can show maximally.

For being a MC is quite difficult-easy but it must be done. we must try it to make us custom of it. We will never know if we never try. so If you want to be a MC just do what the tips above are and a mistake is necessary to make us learning better and the end we can be a good MC.

KINDS OF PUBLIC SPEAKING

There are many kinds of public speaking but the common ones which is often used in the public namely :

1. speech
2. oratory
3. campaign
4. debate
5. story telling
6. broadcast
7. etc,,,

This time being, i am just focusing to explain about speech.
Speech is one of the public speaking's kinds which more focused on speaking alonely in front of people. it is done in the lectern/podium or with out it (in the middle of floor). People usually give the speech in the event when they are asked to deliver a few words but the speech sure related with the event itself! And the one/s who give it is that people who is conceded as the decoroused one/s.

when people deliver their speech, they sometimes do it by saying it without text or reading the scripts. Here are some ways which explaining more about the method of serving the speech.

1. manuscript
it is usual used by many people. And it is usually more specific in the accuracies and very often exist in the formal speech as Governance Speech, Politics, etc. The people read the script which is already prepared by secretary and they just need to read it! But they sometimes improve it by themselves to make it easier/nicer for the audiences. But this way has weaknesses and redundancy(point plus)

the redundancies are :

• all the goals of the speech are able to be delivered easier
• no repeats

the weaknesses are :

• not interesting
• monotones
• no communicate to audiences

2. memoriter
it is continuation of manuscript but the disparity is that it is not reading the script. there is still prepared script but it is memorized by the person who give the speech.
the redundancies are :

• fast delivered id could be memorized well
• can see audiences

the weaknesses are :

• the speaker tend to quick in speaking without understanable of the contents
• possibility forgot the text which can make the bad results

3. Impromptu
it is quite difficult, but if people can do it well, it will be very amazing job! the contents are not prepared at all, the people just directly say what they think on the podium/lectern!

there are a lot of ways to deliver speech but the common ones are those! if you have another i don't mind to let you add it/them here,,,

THE HISTORY AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF PUBLIC SPEAKING

Public speaking is the process of speaking to a group of people in a structured. The aim of public speaking is transmitting informations, motivating, entertaining the people by acting fully expression till make the people influenced by the speaker. the basic elements of communication is "who says what to whom which medium with what effect". it means, people (communicator) say something (message) to communican by using a medium and there will be act in the end (feedback/effect).
The history of public speaking was begun in athens, Greece. the people did oratories in front of public such as speech, read the poem, and others. The history of public speaking has existed for centuries since civilization has been constructed and has had a major impact on society. it was used for influencing the society.
Now days, public speaking has already become more developed, it's become very important and it's can be a great power to hold the public. People can dominate the society with only "Public Speaking" . People has a good public speaking, they can easier get the job because the company in this century need the people who are able to face the public at least they can market the product of the company itself. and also By having a good public speaking it is point plus for the people itself.

Public Speaking is very important now days. We can be success if we have good public speaking. We can heal the world by showing the amazing statements to the public. there are a lot of people who very influenced the world by only speaking. Mr. Barack Obama, President of USA. He can be famous in this world because he ever said in his campaign "we're not black american, we're not white american, but all of us are american". By only saying this he is supported well by all people around the world to be the president of USA.

We can learn from him (mr.obama) that we can hold the earth if we can speak well, amazing, fantastic in front of people. People can trust on us fully if we can make them expected, interested to listen what we say!.

So now, if we want to be a good public speaker, we can learn by our self. We can read the book about public speaking, join public speaking seminar, and sure by watching an awesome man who speak in front of public!!
